Traffic movement at Velana International Airport (VIA) has been temporarily redirected due to ongoing drainage works near the new passenger terminal.

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has stated that the changes will remain in place until 21 July.

As part of the adjustment, the two-lane road adjacent to the new terminal building has been closed, with vehicles now rerouted to the road in front of the new terminal. The taxi queue has also been relocated to the west side parking area, although the existing taxi drop-off point and the MTCC bus stop will continue to operate in their current locations. Vehicles travelling from the north to the south of the airport are now being directed near the airport police checkpoint.

The new terminal is expected to open on 26 July. Initially, operations at the facility will be limited to the national airline, with ten additional airlines scheduled to begin using the terminal from mid-August. All airlines are expected to complete their transition to the new terminal by September.
