The Family and Child Protection Service of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) is set to be relocated to a new building currently under construction in front of T-Jetty in Malé’s Maafannu ward.

The relocation aims to address longstanding space limitations faced by the unit, which is primarily responsible for handling cases related to children. At present, both victims and accused individuals are housed within the same facility, raising concerns about safety and the quality of care provided.

The under-construction building was recently inspected by the Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, accompanied by senior police officials.

According to the police, the new premises will significantly improve the services offered by the unit. The facility will include specially designed spaces to cater to victims of sexual, physical and psychological abuse, as well as incorporate child-friendly features to ensure a safer and more supportive environment during investigations.
