The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has announced temporary road closures around Republic Square in Malé to facilitate rehearsals for the 60th Independence Day activities.
According to a tweet issued by the Police today, traffic flow in the Republic Square area will be halted from 16:00 to 18:00 this afternoon. A further closure will be in effect from 20:00 tonight until the conclusion of the rehearsal.
The affected areas include the vicinity of the President’s Office, Police Headquarters, MNDF Headquarters, Republic Square, Sultan Park, and sections of Chaandhanee Magu and adjacent roads. These measures are being implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of preparations for the upcoming independence day celebrations.
Maldives Independence Day, observed annually on July 26th, commemorates the nation’s gaining full political independence from British rule in 1965.
