Maafaru Council Pushes for Electricity, Education, and Airport Fixes as President’s Atoll Tour Continues

The Maafaru Island Council highlighted critical development needs, specifically ongoing electricity issues and the necessity of strengthening health and education sectors, during a meeting with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today.
President Muizzu, who is currently on a tour through Noonu Atoll and is set to visit 12 other islands in the course of the next four days, held discussions at the Maafaru branch of Fenaka Corporation.

During the meeting, council members, alongside representatives from the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) and heads of local institutions, presented the island’s most pressing concerns. In addition to electricity and social services, issues related to Maafaru’s international airport and harbour were discussed, with a particular focus on enhancing the airport terminal.
President Muizzu, accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and senior officials, provided updates on current development projects in Maafaru. He also outlined the Administration’s efforts to address the community’s concerns.
Earlier in his visit today, the President attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Maafaru Police Station, which was officiated by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan.
