The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has urged the public to remove all vehicles parked within the Green Zone and surrounding areas by 6:00 p.m. today in preparation for the country’s 60th Independence Day celebrations.

According to a map shared by the MPS, the restricted zone includes key landmarks such as Sultan Park, Muliaage Palace, the President’s Office, Police Headquarters, and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Headquarters, and the Republic Square. The directive also applies to parts of Lily Magu, Ameer Ahmed Magu, Chaandhanee Magu, and Boduthakurufaanu Magu surrounding these locations.

Police have warned that any vehicles remaining in the area after the deadline will be towed and relocated.

Authorities apologised for the inconvenience and called for public cooperation to ensure the smooth running of the day’s events.

The Maldives will mark its 60th Independence Day this Saturday with an official flag hoisting ceremony in the morning and a parade in the evening. The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) will also inaugurate the new terminal at Velana International Airport on the same day, with fireworks and a drone show to celebrate both the terminal opening and the national holiday.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in the Maldives tomorrow, and will attend the Independence Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour.
