President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has strongly condemned the Israeli occupation authorities’ reported plan to seize control of Gaza, calling it a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and a grave infringement on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

In a post on his official X account yesterday, the President said the move would deepen the suffering in the occupied Palestinian territories and threaten prospects for lasting peace and regional stability.

“Any such actions blatantly violate international humanitarian law and gravely infringe on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination,” President Muizzu said.

He reaffirmed the Maldives’ unwavering support for the Palestinian people and described any attempt to seize control of Gaza or undermine Palestinian authority and sovereignty as unacceptable.

President Muizzu urged the international community to take urgent, concrete measures to stop the implementation of the plan, end Israeli aggression in Palestine, and ensure accountability for violations in the occupied territories.

This follows his statement on 18 May condemning the continued targeting of civilians in Gaza amid what he described as Israel’s “genocidal assault”. At the time, he called for decisive international action to halt the escalation, protect civilians in line with legal and moral obligations, and hold Israel accountable for its actions.
