Disused Malé Building Partially Collapses, Cars and Motorcycles Damaged

A building near the Buru Park playground in Malé City partially collapsed yesterday, damaging several vehicles and an adjacent property.

The incident occurred at around 1:00 pm when part of the structure, which formerly housed the Education Development Centre (EDC), gave way. According to police, at least four vehicles parked nearby, including two cars and two motorcycles, were damaged along with the neighbouring building. No injuries were reported.

The building, which has long remained vacant, had previously been used by the Maldives National University’s Faculty of Islamic Studies to hold classes before being abandoned due to its deteriorating condition.

Authorities have yet to provide details on the cause of the collapse.
