AEH to Expand Specialised Healthcare with New Neurology Services
Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) is preparing to introduce neurology services as part of its efforts to expand specialised healthcare in the south of the Maldives.
The hospital said it is preparing to bring in specialist neurologists, adding to the endocrinology and nephrology services that became available last month. The new service is expected to enhance treatment for brain and nervous system conditions, allowing patients in Addu and neighbouring atolls to receive care for illnesses such as stroke, epilepsy, nerve inflammation, and migraine without travelling to Malé.
Endocrinology services at AEH, launched last month, provide treatment for hormonal and metabolic diseases that are widespread in the community, including diabetes and thyroid disorders. Early access to treatment is seen as vital for timely diagnosis and management of these conditions.
The resumption of nephrology services, including dialysis, has also been a significant development for patients with kidney-related diseases in the southern region.
AEH remains the central healthcare hub in the south, and the introduction of neurology is regarded as a major advancement for the hospital as well as for the wider health sector development in the Maldives’ more populous southern atolls.
