At the meeting, agreements were signed for several major projects, including the Health Centre Extension Project, the Multipurpose Hall and School Infrastructure Development Project, the Harbour Expansion Project, the Football Stadium Establishment Project, and the Sports Complex Development Project. In addition, land previously allocated for tourism development was formally removed from the registry of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and returned to the Island Council.

President Muizzu also handed over 100 newly developed housing units to the Island Council, presenting a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.

Addressing residents, the President stressed that the projects would play a central role in advancing the island’s development. He pledged close monitoring to ensure timely and efficient completion while maintaining essential services during the transition period. He further assured that the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) would begin operations on the island within five months to establish sustainable waste management practices.

The President reiterated that his Government’s national development efforts would move swiftly and remain focused on the needs of citizens.

As part of his visit, President Muizzu met the Nolhivaranfaru Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions at Nolhivaranfaru School to discuss key development priorities.

Council members requested that shore protection works be included in the harbour expansion project and called for the expedited road development. They highlighted challenges faced by farmers in accessing electricity and proposed the construction of a high-quality volleyball court. The Council also suggested developing the sandbank within the island’s lagoon as a picnic island.

Institutional representatives at the meeting stressed the importance of stationing a sea ambulance on the island to improve emergency healthcare services.

The President assured the Council that the Government would carefully consider their concerns and work towards practical solutions. He also provided updates on ongoing projects. Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from State-Owned Enterprises accompanied him during the visit.
