Fuel Imports into Maldives Skyrockets in July, Shows Customs Data

 Maldives Customs data show that fuel imports into the Maldives increased in July compared to the preceding two months.

The value of fuel imports reached MVR 923 million in July, up from MVR 777 million in June and MVR 790 million in May. This was the second-highest figure recorded so far this year, following January’s MVR 960 million.

Total imports excluding fuel amounted to MVR 3.6 billion in July, about MVR 400 million lower than in June. Food was the second-largest import category, with a value of MVR 859 million.

Exports during the month were valued at MVR 210 million, with frozen bluefin tuna making up the largest share at MVR 126 million.

Customs revenue for July rose to MVR 295 million, an increase compared with the same month last year.
