The Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, has urged police officers to take initiative in their professional development as part of a wider call for self-improvement and proactive engagement in policing.
Speaking at the annual Police Service Day ceremony, the Minister underlined the government’s commitment to improving policing resources and infrastructure, while stressing that officers themselves must actively pursue growth in order to meet new challenges, particularly in the field of cybercrime.
He noted that the government is focused on creating better facilities, delivering comprehensive training programmes, and equipping officers with the necessary tools to navigate an evolving landscape of crime. With cybercrime becoming increasingly prevalent, he emphasised the importance of specialised training to strengthen prevention and response measures.
The Minister also highlighted the wider role of the police in society, pointing to the importance of fostering unity and promoting peace and mutual respect among citizens. He recognised the challenges that threaten social cohesion and encouraged initiatives that reinforce trust between law enforcement and communities.
Police Service Day, established in 2004 to commemorate the transition of the police force into a civilian service, provides an opportunity for reflection on the responsibilities and progress of law enforcement. This year’s ceremony also honoured long-serving officers, with memorial plaques presented to those who have served between 20 and 35 years.
