ECM Allocates MVR 27.9 Million to Five Political Parties

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has sent MVR 27.9 million to be distributed amongst the five political parties that met the required amount of 10,000 members to qualify for government funding.
The allocation is based on the number of registered members as of 31 December 2024, with each member receiving MVR 193.23. The disbursement of MVR 27,912,255 represents 0.1 per cent of the state’s annual budget
The funds will be distributed as follows:
- People’s National Congress (PNC): MVR 13,316,689.57
- Maldives Democratic Party (MDP): MVR 8,454,780.51
- Jumhooree Party (JP): MVR 2,656,598.57
- Adhaalath Party (AP): MVR 1,713,538.65
- Maldives Development Alliance (MDA): MVR 1,769,648.69
Although political parties with over 10,000 registered members as of 31 December 2024 are eligible for state funding, the Adhaalath Party and MDA do not meet this threshold, recording 8,844 and 9,011 members respectively, according to the ECM website.
The largest party in the country remains the ruling party, PNC, with 68,655 registered members, followed by MDP with 43,765 members.
