An agreement for the land transfer was signed yesterday at a ceremony attended by senior representatives from both institutions. Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Brigadier General (Retired) Ali Zuhair signed on behalf of the corporation, while Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed represented the Ministry.
The first mosque will be developed on Lot No. 22242, a 20,720-square-foot plot designed to accommodate between 2,000 and 3,000 worshippers. The second mosque will be located on Lot No. 22221, covering 27,920 square feet, with a similar capacity of 2,000 to 3,000 people.
The addition of these mosques is expected to meet the growing demand for prayer facilities in Hulhumalé Phase II, where new housing projects, including the Hiyaa Flats, have contributed to a significant rise in population.
The mosques will join existing facilities overseen by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs across the Greater Malé region, providing additional space for religious activities and supporting the needs of the expanding community.
