Ministry Offers Youth Fishing Program for Maldivians Under 24
The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources is offering five Maldivians under the age of 24 the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fishing industry through a three-month programme this year.
The initiative, announced in the Maldives Gazette yesterday, aims to increase youth interest in fishing and is supported by the World Bank’s “Transforming Fisheries Sector in the South-West Indian Ocean Region and Maldives Project”.
Participants will receive practical training and information about fishing, including the opportunity to experience pole-and-line fishing for skipjack tuna on notable Maldivian vessels. They will also have the chance to learn directly from experienced fishermen, gaining valuable skills and insights into the industry.
