The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has opened applications for 200 newly built three-bedroom terraced houses in Thinadhoo City, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
The project forms part of the government’s wider effort to improve residential access in underserved regions. The application period, which began on 7 September, will remain open until 7 November. Submissions are to be made through the ministry’s Hiyaavehi Portal at hiyaavehi.housing.gov.mv. Alongside the launch, the ministry issued detailed guidelines setting out eligibility requirements and the allocation process.
Applicants must be Maldivian citizens aged 18 or above and either currently living in Thinadhoo or have resided continuously on the island for at least ten years. The criteria exclude individuals who own, or have agreed to purchase, a property of 600 square feet or more within a single building. Those who have already received housing under any government programme on another island are also not eligible.
Applications will be assessed using a point-based system, with evaluations carried out by the ministry or a designated authority. Points will be allocated based on factors such as family size and current living conditions.
Priority consideration will be given to persons with disabilities, those requiring special assistance, and individuals under social protection schemes. Additional weighting will be applied to applicants legally or judicially responsible for the care of dependants, including elderly parents.
