Members elected to represent broadcasters and other media have officially been appointed to the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission under the provisions of the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Act.

The committee consists of seven members, three appointed by Parliament and four elected in accordance with the Act. The media representatives were elected without contest, as not enough eligible candidates applied for the Elections Commission of Maldives to hold an election.

The appointments come amid ongoing criticism of the new media regulatory framework. The Maldives Journalists Association (MJA) has expressed concern over the act and the formation of the commission, citing a lack of transparency and independence in the process.
