The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has launched a new digital platform, the ‘Hushiyaaru’ website, aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness and risk communication across the Maldives.
The platform was introduced during the NDMA’s ‘Viluntheri Fest’, held in conjunction with International Crisis Risk Reduction Day, and was officiated by the Minister of State for Defence, Aishath Safoora.
The ‘Hushiyaaru’ website serves as a comprehensive resource designed to empower communities with essential information on safety and preparedness. It provides warning messages in multiple languages, practical guidance on mitigation measures, and access to awareness materials, including videos, posters, and technical information for educational purposes. Developed with inclusivity in mind, the website is available in five languages and features accessibility options for individuals with special needs.
According to the NDMA, the initiative plays a key role in achieving the ‘Empowering Society to Respond’ objective outlined in the Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy 2024–2030. The platform also supports the establishment of early warning systems and the dissemination of technical knowledge, contributing to the goal of building a disaster-resilient Maldives.
The development of the ‘Hushiyaaru’ website was carried out in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by the Governments of Denmark, Luxembourg, and South Korea. At the same time, the NDMA is strengthening its partnership with the Maldives Red Crescent to further enhance national preparedness and resilience against potential disasters.
