Veligandu Maldives has hosted five educational sessions and exposure trips for students from AA. Atoll Education Centre in Rasdhoo and Thoddoo School as part of its “Discover Tourism” programme this year, designed to encourage young Maldivians to explore careers in the tourism and hospitality sector.
From the fourth session onwards, the resort partnered with the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) to broaden the initiative’s reach and impact.
Veligandu Maldives Resort Island has been actively engaging in Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives focused on education, community empowerment, and sustainability. The programme provides students with practical learning experiences, motivational sessions, and insights into the operations of a luxury resort.

Each session is structured to connect classroom knowledge with real-world hospitality practices, featuring interactive demonstrations and direct engagement with the resort’s management team and departmental heads.
Students were introduced to operational areas such as Front Office, Food & Beverage, and Housekeeping, learning about teamwork, service excellence, and guest experience. They were also informed about sustainability initiatives, including the resort’s solar panel project, and participated in marine conservation sessions led by the resort’s marine biologist. Hands-on experiences included pastry-making workshops and role-play activities simulating hospitality scenarios. Each day concluded with an island tour and refreshments, providing a full immersion into resort life.

The programme has welcomed dozens of students, teachers, and parents, leaving many inspired to consider careers in tourism and hospitality. The next session is scheduled for later this year, targeting students from Ukulhas School and further expanding the resort’s educational outreach within the atoll.
Beyond tourism education, Veligandu Maldives’ CSR efforts support local communities and sustainable practices. The resort sources goods and produce from nearby islands, organises blood donation programmes, and features only Maldivian artists, DJs, and singers for entertainment, promoting local talent and culture.

Through initiatives such as “Discover Tourism,” Veligandu Maldives demonstrates a holistic approach to corporate responsibility, emphasising both environmental sustainability and social impact. The resort’s efforts underline its commitment to nurturing people, protecting the environment, and strengthening community partnerships, setting an example of how tourism can be a force for positive change in the Maldives.
Reflecting on the importance of the programme, Mr. Fathuhulla Ibrahim, General Manager of Veligandu Maldives, said the initiative embodies the resort’s philosophy that hospitality is about people and creating meaningful experiences.
“At its heart, hospitality is not just about resorts, hotels, or restaurants. It is about people, about meaningful moments and creating experiences that guests will remember for a lifetime. They may forget what they ate or how their room looked, but they will never forget how you made them feel. A happy team creates happy guests, and this philosophy inspires everything we do.”
