The airline launched its flights to the Maldives on 9 November. The inaugural flight, J2301, was greeted with a ceremonial water salute to mark the expansion of services at the new terminal. Check-in counters for Azerbaijan Airlines were officially opened during the ceremony, and the 156 passengers on the first flight were welcomed with traditional activities.
With the addition of Azerbaijan Airlines, the number of carriers operating from Terminal 1 has increased, supporting the Maldives Airports Company Limited’s (MACL) goal of providing comprehensive and high-quality services to all airlines flying to the Maldives.
MACL also welcomed Air Astana, the national carrier of Kazakhstan, to Terminal 1 with a ceremonial water salute. Air Astana is the 15th airline to commence operations at the new terminal, reflecting the continued transition of airlines ahead of the upcoming peak season.
