24-Hour Run Organised to Celebrate Commencement of Tobacco Generational Ban

A one-day run has been organised to celebrate the commencement of the generational tobacco ban, which prohibits the sale and use of tobacco for individuals born on or after 2007. 

The run, held this Friday on 31 October, will start at 4 PM at Ekuveni Running Track, according to an official from the Ministry of Health. The run will continue until 4 PM of the following day, 1 November, Saturday, which is the date set for the generational ban to come into effect.

According to an official from the Ministry of Health, anyone can participate in the race. Interested individuals can find the QR code near the entrance of the Running Track, which can be used to participate in the race. Besides this, there are no fees or other requirements for participation. 

Besides the run, several programs will go on during the 24 hours, such as awareness and information sessions by the Smoking Cessation Clinic. Zumba and other fitness activities will also be held, said the official. 

In addition to the Tobacco Generational Ban, the current government has also banned the sale, importation, distribution, and use of e-cigarettes, e-liquids, and vapes nationwide. The Government also implemented a ban on all forms of tobacco advertising and sponsorship, raised tobacco taxes, and established a free cessation programme across all health facilities.
