The Higher Education Ministry has announced that its new mobile application designed to streamline complaints and requests from government-funded students studying abroad will be completed by the end of November.

Named the Higher Education Management System, the app was initially scheduled for launch in October. It was first introduced by Higher Education Minister Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed in May, as part of efforts to provide a modern platform for addressing student concerns and ensuring faster responses from the ministry.

Although the October deadline was missed, the ministry confirmed that the app is now undergoing final testing. Ahead of its launch, the ministry also plans to establish dedicated WhatsApp numbers to handle complaints. Countries hosting more than 50 Maldivian students will receive separate contact numbers to facilitate communication.

The student loan scheme continues to be a pressing issue for many Maldivian students abroad. Earlier this year, pilot students in Spain raised concerns about delays in top-up loans and insufficient financial support, submitting a formal letter to the ministry in February.
