Two Arrested Over Hulhumalé Car Crash Suspected of Drug Use

The Maldives Police Service has stated that two men involved in a car crash in Hulhumalé on 8 November are suspected of being under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
Police identified the individuals as 29-year-old Mohamed Jaushan of H. Blueloon, Malé, and 26-year-old Ahmed Ausam Haneef of M. Fanari, Malé. A court has ordered their detention for 15 days pending further investigation. Police confirmed that Jaushan was driving the vehicle when the crash occurred.

According to police, the incident took place early on Saturday morning, when the car veered off course to avoid an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle then struck a motorbike before mounting the pavement and crashing into the window of a shop.
Police received the accident report at around 6 a.m., and confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Authorities said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Traffic accidents are the second-most reported incidents for this year, according to statistics from the Maldives Police Service, standing at 2544.
