MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Resigns

The chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Fayyaz Ismail, has resigned from his position. 

In a post shared on X, Fayyaz expressed his gratitude to the members and the national council of the party for their tireless efforts in progressing the party’s activities during his term.

He further said that the opportunity to work in the same party which guaranteed basic rights to and empowered the people was an honor. He added that he will continue to work for change as a member of the party and in the party’s national council. 
Fayyaz was elected as the chairperson of the party in 2022, after defeating the then-party spokesperson former Maafannu North MP Imthiyaz Fahumy. 

This year, he had announced his intention to run in the 2028 presidential election.
