STELCO Employee Injured During Fire at Old Hulhumalé Power Station

An employee at State Electric Company (STELCO) suffered multiple injuries in a fire at the old power station in Hulhumalé today.

In a post on X, STELCO said the employee is receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital. The fire reportedly broke out due to a technical issue with the switchboard at the station.

Earlier, at 1:52 pm, STELCO posted that feeders supplying electricity to Malé and Hulhumalé had been turned off following a problem with a medium voltage panel at the old power station. By 1:55 pm, the company confirmed that electricity had been restored to the affected areas.
