The Government of Japan has donated an 82-foot patrol vessel to the Maldives Customs Service to strengthen the management and surveillance of international ports.

The vessel, provided through Japan’s Economic Cooperation Grant Aid, will be jointly operated by the Maldives National Defence Force Coast Guard and the Maldives Customs Service.
Training for the vessel’s operation took place in both Japan and the Maldives, with 23 Customs officers completing the programme. The vessel was officially handed over by the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Ishigami Rumiko, and received on behalf of the Maldivian government by the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan.
Following the handover, Minister Ihusaan, Ambassador Ishigami, and other delegates toured the vessel at the Malé Commercial Harbour, where Customs officers demonstrated its operational features and capabilities.
