Man Found Dead at Sea Near Gulhifalhu Identified as Chinese National

Maldives Police Service (MPS) confirmed the identity of the man found dead at sea on Thursday is a Chinese national.

MPS said on Friday that the man found in the sea near Gulhifalhu, Kaafu Atoll, was Cheng Jia, aged 38. Police said he fell into the sea outside Hulhumalé while attempting to board a speedboat from a barge.

Police added that the crew of the speedboat tried to rescue him after he fell and searched the area after losing sight of him. They also informed nearby vessels and the Maldives National Defence Force Coast Guard of the missing man.

The Coast Guard later recovered his body at sea at around 1:30 P.M. after launching a search operation. Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
