Authorities reported that a six-foot crocodile was captured near K. Guraidhoo yesterday.
The animal was caught 1.5 nautical miles southwest of Guraidhoo by the vessel Ranmuiy and subsequently taken into the custody of the Maldives National Defence Force.
The MNDF confirmed that arrangements are being made to release the crocodile outside the Maldives’ Exclusive Economic Zone.
Crocodiles are not native to the Maldives, although authorities have noted occasional sightings of such animals in Maldivian waters.
