Maldives Heritage Sector Sees Unprecedented Development, Says Heritage Minister
Minister Adam Naseer highlights unprecedented growth in Maldives’ heritage sector under current administration.
The heritage sector in the Maldives has reached an unprecedented level of development under the current administration, according to Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim.
The Minister made the remarks during a ceremony awarding prizes for literary and handwriting competitions organised by the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy, also known as the Dhivehi Language Academy.
He highlighted that the government has implemented three key policies to develop and preserve heritage. These include generating income from heritage, integrating heritage into people’s everyday lives, and digitising heritage for future generations. The Minister noted that, while heritage was previously considered a financial burden on the state, the current government views it as a sector worthy of investment.
Ongoing projects include the restoration and development of historic monuments, with additional initiatives planned, such as the launch of the Maldives’ first interactive immersive museum scheduled for January next year. The Minister attributed the sector’s progress to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s clear vision and effective collaboration among relevant institutions.
