Gov’t Waives Off Fines for Rent Non-Payment at Hiya Flats

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has suspended fines for non-payment of monthly rent at the Hiya flats.

Hiya flats are leased to tenants on a pay-to-own basis, with a monthly charge of MVR 3,984 and an additional MVR 1,000 maintenance fee, bringing the total to MVR 4,984. Non-payment of this amount has been a recurring issue for HDC.

Mohamed Siraj, Social Media Manager at HDC, said fines incurred between January 2024 and 30 November 2025 have now been suspended. He did not provide details on the total fines, the outstanding amounts, or the number of tenants affected.
