Two Over 50 Arrested in Hulhumalé On Drug Trafficking Charges

Maldives Police Service has arrested two individuals aged over 50 in Hulhumalé on suspicion of selling drugs.
Police said officers from the Counter-Narcotics Intelligence Division carried out the arrests under a court order during an operation targeting suspected drug trafficking.

The suspects were identified as Mohamed Waheed, 52, of Naseemaage, Meemu Atoll Muli, and Aminath Ibrahim, 57, of Mushikulage, Seenu Atoll Feydhoo. Police recovered substances suspected to be drugs weighing more than 32.6 grams from the apartment where the arrests took place.
The Criminal Court has ordered both suspects to be held in remand for five days as investigations continue, police said.
According to police statistics, drug-related offences account for 17 per cent of the 11,548 cases reported so far this year. A total of 1,959 drug-related cases have been recorded to date.
