Three individuals have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer and attempting to obstruct police duties during a search, authorities confirmed.
Police attempted to search a group of people at the junction of Izzuddin Magu and Gandhakoalhi Magu on Tuesday after they displayed suspicious behaviour upon seeing officers, prompting concerns that they may have been planning a criminal offence.
Those arrested were identified as Ahmed Razeen, 22, of Miskiymaku, Kemy, Fuvahmulah; Nafiu Ibrahim, 30, of Naman, Funaadu, Fuvahmulah; and Mohamed Luweiz, 19, of Iraaku Vilaa, Gaafu Dhaalu Vaadhoo.
All three were presented in court for a remand hearing, where Razeen was remanded in custody for five days, Nafiu for two days, and Luweiz for 15 days.
Police confirmed that all three individuals have prior criminal records.
