Hulhumale Phase 3 Land Reclamation Project

Hulhumalé Phase 3 reclamation reaches 77.8 per cent completion, according to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), marking steady progress in the major housing development project.

A total of 49 hectares have been reclaimed so far, with works continuing in line with the project’s approved timeline.

Reclamation resumed in November after delays caused by revisions to the Hulhumalé Master Plan, with the Housing Development Corporation overseeing the project.

Capital Marine and Civil Construction is carrying out the on-site works, following the project’s restart.

The project was temporarily suspended in 2023 after the Environmental Protection Agency halted works due to a mass coral bleaching event.

Works resumed in 2024 after EPA approval, allowing the project to continue under revised environmental conditions.

Hulhumalé Phase 3 is a key component of plans to address housing shortages in the Greater Malé region.

The reclaimed land will be developed into housing flats and residential areas, aimed at easing pressure from the region’s growing population.
