New Hybrid Power System in Kudarikilu to Cut Diesel Use and Emissions
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MoTE) has confirmed the installation of a solar–diesel–battery hybrid power system in Kudarikilu, Baa Atoll, aimed at enhancing energy reliability and grid stability.
The system comprises 352 kWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity and a 618 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
According to the ministry, the hybrid system will significantly reduce reliance on diesel for power generation, saving an estimated 165,189 litres of diesel annually and cutting around 405 tonnes of emissions each year.
The installation represents a key step towards realising President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s goal of generating 33 percent of the nation’s electricity from renewable sources by 2028.
