A total of 329 tonnes of goods were exported through the sea-to-air cargo service in December, according to monthly statistics released by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).

The sea-to-air cargo service was launched in 2024 by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to facilitate the fast and secure delivery of goods arriving by sea through MPL. The service is jointly operated by MACL and MPL and is aimed at expanding the cargo handling capabilities of Velana International Airport.
MACL has highlighted that the expanding role of Velana International Airport in global cargo connectivity is expected to strengthen the company’s contribution to the national economy. The airport’s cargo terminal, which also became operational in 2024, was developed to support a broad range of services in line with international standards.
MACL has reiterated its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and comprehensive cargo solutions for its customers.
