The national airline, Maldivian, has reported strong demand for its seasonal international flights to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok during the holiday period.
The airline increases both domestic and international flight frequencies each year during school holidays to provide greater travel options for the public. In line with this approach, Maldivian expanded services to several destinations during the latest holiday season.
Maldivian said the seasonal flights to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok operated at high capacity, with most services running full. The routes were introduced to meet peak holiday demand and attracted significant interest from Maldivian travellers throughout the period.
According to the airline, more than 2,120 passengers travelled on the Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok routes during the season. Maldivian said this indicates strong demand for regional destinations for short holidays, business travel, and year-end trips during school holidays.
The airline said the performance of the two routes reflects the growing popularity of regional travel among local passengers and aligns with its strategy of adjusting flight schedules based on demand during peak travel periods.
In addition to these routes, Maldivian increased flight frequencies to Trivandrum and Cochin in response to demand on other international services. Some flights were operated using larger aircraft, increasing seat capacity and improving passenger services. Additional flights were also operated to Jeddah to facilitate Umrah travel during the holiday period.
