President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said a country is built upon the behaviour and habits of its people, and to ensure future generations uphold traditional Maldivian values, a national programme called “Bingaa” will be conducted in all schools across the Maldives.

Speaking during his presidential address at the opening of the first parliamentary session of the year today, he said infrastructure and buildings represent the physical components of heritage. He added that the nation must make a concerted effort to revive meaningful aspects of Maldivian heritage.

Special attention will be given to promoting the dignity and discipline of citizens, the President said.

The “National Project on Being Respectful” will be launched this year as part of a nationwide campaign, he said.

President Muizzu said the necessary legal framework is being prepared to support these initiatives. As part of this, the Dhivehi Gaumee Ramzuthakuge Bill and the will be submitted to parliament later this year.
