Salaries for employees of the Maldives Customs Service and the Maldives Correctional Service have been harmonised under this year’s national budget.
The revised salary structure took effect on 1 March, providing pay increases to staff in both agencies. The adjustments are guided by the National Pay Framework, developed by the National Pay Commission under the National Pay Policy Act. The initiative forms part of the government’s broader pay harmonisation policy, aimed at standardising salaries across different sectors.
In 2025, similar increases were granted to civil service and judicial sector employees under the same framework. The government has indicated that other public sector employees who have not yet received adjustments will be included in the harmonisation process this year.
The Finance Ministry stated that the new pay structure is intended to reduce reliance on overtime-based income and promote more efficient use of working hours. Expected outcomes include improved work-life balance, higher overall employee income, and support for a healthier and more productive society.
