The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has resumed verification of the final voters list at the Social Centre by candidates, their representatives, and political parties, after temporarily halting the process following a fire near the Elections Centre last night.

ECM said it has commenced operations at the Social Centre to ensure election activities continue without interruption and remain on schedule.

The temporary suspension was caused by a fire in a warehouse near Thoiba Mosque, adjacent to the Election Centre in Malé’s Maafannu ward, which has now been fully extinguished. Last night, ECM confirmed that none of its election materials was affected and that preparations were underway to relocate all election-related items from the affected location.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is continuing to support affected residents, including checking on 32 people from four nearby homes. According to NDMA, 77 residents from 10 homes were provided temporary shelter last night. Response teams remain fully mobilised in the area.

Residents and businesses have been advised to keep doors closed, limit outdoor activity, and wear masks if exposed to smoke. Motorists have been urged to follow police instructions and use alternative routes due to the presence of hazardous chemicals.
