The government has announced that walk-in interviews will be held again today to recruit drivers for the government’s Male’ Taxi Line.

The company had previously conducted similar interviews, stating that it is seeking to recruit a total of 407 taxi drivers, including 122 part-time positions.

In a social media announcement, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)  said the interviews are scheduled to take place at the Maafannu Bus Terminal from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

The government had earlier aimed to launch the Male’ Taxi Line in time for the Eid holidays this year as part of efforts to address ongoing taxi availability challenges in the capital. During a press conference held earlier this month at the President’s Office, Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen stated that work was underway to roll out the service by the end of Ramadan, although operations have not yet begun.

Ameen also noted that three models of vehicles are being procured in two batches for the service, with the first batch of 60 cars expected to arrive from Thailand, while the remaining vehicles will be imported from China. The government had previously set a target to inaugurate the service with a limited fleet by 18 March.
