Construction has commenced on a 50-unit housing project in Thinadhoo City, as part of the government’s efforts to expand housing in key population centres.
The project is being developed by Swift Engineering Pvt Ltd and is scheduled for completion within 450 days. It will consist of 50 three-bedroom housing units.
The project was inaugurated at a ceremony attended by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Abdulla Muththalib, along with members of parliament.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader housing policy aimed at increasing the availability of flats and housing units in strategic locations. The policy was highlighted by President Mohamed Muizzu during his recent visit to Thinadhoo City.
Meanwhile, the third phase of the Thinadhoo City road development project has also commenced, marking a continuation of infrastructure upgrades in the area.
The project was awarded to the Road Development Corporation on 25 February, with a contract value of USD 22.1 million and a completion period of 1,440 days. The corporation had previously completed Phase 2, which involved the asphalt surfacing of 14 roads in the city.
The latest phase was inaugurated by Minister Muththalib at a ceremony attended by parliament members and officials from the Road Development Corporation.
A total of 50 roads will be developed under this phase, including paving works and the installation of drainage systems.
The project forms part of President Muizzu’s pledge to upgrade roads in densely populated islands and cities to modern standards across the Maldives.
