The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has confirmed that a financing agreement for the Hulhumale’ Grand Mosque project was signed last evening, marking progress in plans to develop a new religious landmark.

The new mosque is being developed to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the Maldives’ conversion to Islam, a milestone the government has pledged to mark through major religious infrastructure projects.

The existing Hulhumale’ Grand Mosque, constructed in 2006, accommodates more than 1,800 worshippers. The new development is intended to expand capacity and improve facilities in line with the growing population of Hulhumale’.

The ministry stated that the agreement with Al Rajhi Company forms part of a broader strategic partnership aimed at supporting large-scale religious development initiatives across the Maldives.
