The government has instructed the immediate relocation of all vessels moored near Fishermen’s Park as redevelopment works intensify along the northern waterfront of Malé.

The directive has been issued to facilitate upcoming sheet piling operations along a 700-metre stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, extending from Izzuddin Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal. As part of the works, the roadway and adjacent harbour area from Fishermen’s Park to the Bank of Maldives headquarters will be closed to the public from 8 April to 4 July.

Owners of all vessels, including dhonis and speedboats, have been required to vacate the area to prevent disruptions to construction activities.

The redevelopment plan follows the design approach implemented in earlier phases, focusing on expanding capacity to ease congestion in the capital. MTCC has confirmed that 143 metres of sheet piling have already been completed, with sidewalk construction currently ongoing.

Once completed, the upgraded area will feature asphalt surfacing, a stormwater drainage system, and improved street lighting.

The current phase follows the completion of a 380-metre section between Izzuddin Jetty and North Harbour, which has already been opened to the public and has contributed to improved traffic flow for both vehicles and pedestrians.
