The Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has announced that it will waive fines accumulated on unpaid water bills issued up to the end of last year, provided that customers fully settle the principal amounts.

In a statement released on Wednesday, MWSC said the initiative is part of its broader efforts to introduce more flexible payment arrangements for customers. The waiver applies to long-outstanding fines incurred by both domestic and commercial tariff customers, with fines to be removed once the full outstanding balances are cleared by the end of this year.

The company also confirmed that customers will have the option to settle overdue bills through instalment arrangements. In such cases, fines will be waived upon the successful completion of payments in line with the agreed plan.

MWSC has advised customers seeking assistance or further information to contact its Customer Care Centre via hotline 105, SMS 1050, or email.

The company encouraged customers to take advantage of the opportunity to clear overdue bills and emphasised the importance of settling payments regularly.

The decision comes amid ongoing public discussion over the practice of waiving fines, with similar measures previously implemented by the government, including the removal of overdue rent fines for social housing units in Hulhumalé Phase I, Hiyaa flats, and housing units in Malé and Sinamalé.
