Maldives, Sri Lanka Discuss Cooperation in Tourism, Trade and Environment

The Maldivian government held discussions with Sri Lanka on strengthening cooperation and development in key sectors, including tourism, trade, and environmental conservation.
According to the President’s Office, Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Muizzu today during the President’s ongoing State Visit to Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed enhancing bilateral relations in several development areas and expanding cooperation in sectors such as environmental conservation, tourism and trade.
The president and the minister also reflected on the six decades of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, which they said were built on shared values, mutual respect and longstanding friendship between the people of both countries.
They reaffirmed their commitment to continued engagement and exploring further opportunities for cooperation for the mutual benefit of the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are currently on a State Visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of President Anura Kumara Disanayaka. They are scheduled to return on Wednesday, 6 May.
