The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Dr. Mohamed described the contribution as more than a budgetary decision, saying it represents an investment in preserving the dignity of the Palestinian people and protecting the international rules-based order.

Dr. Mohamed also highlighted the operational challenges facing UNRWA and rejected what he described as false accusations against the agency. He called on the international community to provide sustained funding to enable UNRWA to continue fulfilling its mandate.

The ministry stated that Dr Mohamed reaffirmed the Maldives’ solidarity with the Palestinian people during his address.

The government of the Maldives also pledged US$50,000 to UNRWA in 2024.
