Maldives Customs Seizes Drugs Worth Over MVR 2.7 Million at VIA

The Maldives Customs Service has seized drugs with an estimated street value of more than MVR 2.7 million that were smuggled into the country by air.
Customs said the drugs were intercepted on 29 June during inspections at Velana International Airport (VIA). The seized substances weighed more than 3.5 kilograms and included 740 grams of cannabis and 2,796 grams of hashish oil.
According to Customs, the estimated street value of the seized drugs exceeds MVR 2.7 million.
The agency also announced on Thursday that it had seized another consignment of drugs worth more than MVR 5 million that had been smuggled into the Maldives through the postal service.
The postal shipment was intercepted on 18 June and was identified as containing synthetic cathinone.
Customs has not released further details about either case. It has not disclosed the countries from which the drugs were imported or whether any arrests have been made.
