President Returns to Maldives Following Condolence Visit to Qatar

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Malé following the conclusion of his official visit to the State of Qatar, where he offered condolences on the passing of former Amir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The President travelled to Qatar to pay his respects to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and the Royal Family following the death of the former Amir last Sunday.

During the visit, the Amir received President Muizzu in audience at Lusail Palace in Doha. The President conveyed condolences on behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives.

The two leaders also discussed the longstanding ties between the Maldives and Qatar and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

According to the President’s Office, the visit reflected the importance the Maldives places on its longstanding relationship with Qatar.

The late former Amir played a significant role in supporting the Maldives, including facilitating the launch of Qatar Airways operations in the country, supporting the establishment of Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani School in Laamu Atoll, and contributing to the construction of Masjid Al Sheikh Qasim bin Al Thani in Hulhumalé. During his reign, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani also paid an official visit to the Maldives in 2005.
