Core-Cutting Survey Begins for Ameenee Magu Redevelopment

Core-cutting works were carried out on Monday as part of the pre-construction survey for the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu under the Male’ Magu Project.

The survey was conducted by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to assess the condition of the existing road surface and underlying soil before construction begins. The assessment is intended to determine the quality of the tar and ground beneath the road to support the redevelopment works.

The Male’ Magu Project includes the rehabilitation of Ameenee Magu, Izzudheen Magu and Boduthakurufaanu Magu. MTCC has stated that the project is aimed at improving road conditions and enhancing safety for both motorists and pedestrians.

MTCC recently announced that the existing tarmac on the western section of Ameenee Magu will be removed, with re-tarring scheduled to begin next week. The section near the Harbour Food Court has deteriorated significantly, with unevenly lifted tarmac creating bumps and potholes that have made driving hazardous.

The final stretch of Ameenee Magu was resurfaced two years ago after the current government assumed office. The contract for the project was awarded by the Planning Ministry under the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to RDC for MVR 84.4 million. However, the tarmac on both sides of the road has since shifted unevenly.

Ameenee Magu has remained in poor condition for an extended period, prompting continued public concern over road safety.
