Man Fined MVR 100,000 and Jailed 25 Years for Drug Trafficking

A 28-year-old Maldivian man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison and fined MVR 100,000 after the Shaviyani Atoll, Maungoodhoo Magistrate Court, found him guilty of trafficking diamorphine.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) identified the man as Mohamed Faariq of Fehivilage, Shabiyani Atoll, Maungoodhoo. The court issued the ruling on August 10, 2026, under Section 105 of the Drugs Act.

Police said the case was first submitted to the service on November 24, 2020. Following the investigation, authorities forwarded the case to the Prosecutor General’s Office on January 6, 2021, to file charges against Faariq.
