The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has arranged temporary shelter and food for five days for four Maldivian residents affected by an apartment fire, comprising three females and one male.

The four residents were living in a three-bedroom apartment on the seventh floor of H. Fahivai building where the fire broke out. NDMA said the fire caused extensive damage to the apartment’s living room but no injuries were reported.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said the fire broke out in the living room and has since been extinguished. MNDF is also providing humanitarian assistance to people affected by the incident.

NDMA said smoke from the fire affected several floors of the building, but none sustained damage that made them uninhabitable. The authority added that there was no longer any trace of smoke on the affected floors.

The temporary accommodation and food assistance have been arranged as part of NDMA’s response to the incident and support for the affected residents.
